My foster father died of Alzheimers and it was so difficult for my mother. When Kate says that she wished that her mother would passed away, I understand her completely. My foster father lived for 12 years without knowing the people around him. It drained the family financially and made my mother a wreck. Life was so hard for our family because we forgot what it was like to have good times. Thanks Kate and thanks for posting this important piece of information!

I’m sorry to hear this. I can’t begin to imagine how it must be like to lose someone close to me. I mean, my great-grandfather died of it, but I was too young to really understand what was happening to him. I don’t know if you read Kate’s essay in Voices of Alzheimer’s but I would share it with you if you would like to read it.

I have been and still am personaly affected by Alz, both my grandparents died with it and now my dad is in the early stages. It’s very difficult to see a parent change everyday. I’ts the hardest on my mom!
Me too. Thank you again for commenting. You know, the only thing we can do to make it better for Kate and everyone affected by Alz. is “this coming together” like she said. When I think of Lynn’s Auctions for Kate, or the memory walks for her and her mum or if I think about Lucy, the caregiver I think they all prove that sth. good can come out of it. The worst of circumstances can bring out the best in people and maybe we can give some hope.
